"Dozens of women's and public health organizations on Wednesday called on R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. to remove from the market its Camel No. 9 cigarettes, a brand they say is cynically aimed at getting young, fashion-conscious women and girls to start smoking."
'Cause, you know, cigarette companies should never attempt to reach a specific demographic. The bastards! Someone should write a letter!
"This product is nothing more than a veiled attempt to sell more cigarettes to girls and young women, putting them at grave risk for disease and a premature death," said the letter to R.J. Reynolds chairman Susan Ivey. "Remove Camel No. 9 today."
This is ridiculous. It is not like Camel is walking around, kidnapping young women, tying them to chairs, and forcing them to smoke. That might be over the line. You know what I hope they do with this? Reverse the packaging. Make the fucking packs completely pink with black trim and start advertising in Victoria's Secret Catalogs. Suck on that, stupid women's groups.
A car company recognizes that females have different tastes in vehicles than men and they get applauded for helping female empowerment. Camel has every right to advertise a product that they think will help their company, gee whiz, make money.
Got a little couch potato?
