Lolla
While riding the blue line this week I saw a couple of billboards for Lollapalooza 2009. It piqued my interest. When I originally looked at it a couple of months ago, I thought it was just alright. Now that I had another chance to look at the whole list, I gotta say I wanna go. The lineup is sweet. Anyone want to go?

The Future is Fucked
Nothing is sacred.
Curiosity and innovation (kinda) are dead.
The internet and other technology have ruined everything.
Anything that you would have seen as innovative in a movie or TV show is on the internet. In some form or another. This is good for the masses that like to consume a massive amount of junk in a short time. But its bad for people, like me, who don't have much time to consume all that junk. Also, original IPs are going quick. Look at movies. Remakes EVERYWHERE! Not that its a bad thing, but what's the future going to hold? Everything is going to be just a rehash of something else.
Also, this is probably just me, I am really going to miss the nostalgia feeling of looking at an old photo. Everything is digital now. Unless you print it up, there is no physical picture. Also, I love looking at old photos from the 70s-80s, because people look so ridiculous. To me, photos now will never give me that feeling of nostalgia, because they are digital. I may not think this way in 10 years, who knows.
There is one good thing about the internet, which may change the way TV is viewed in the next couple of years, which is that censorship may be dead. If television wants to keep up with the internet, they are going to have to revise their position on censorship. Kids now have no boundaries. They can view anything they want to on the internet. Pretty much ANYTHING, literally. That's scary, but also kinda nice. I fucking hate censorship...if you can't tell.
I'm scared for the future. Will anything be left to do?
I gotta stop writing thoughtful posts when I'm tired. I could have worded this better, but now I don't care.
Enjoy

The Day the Earth Stood Still review
This movie was a mixed bag for me. I liked the plot and the special effects, but the execution was just sub-par.
The movie starts off with no real explanation of anything, which is guess is kind of expected, but it still leaves you with a feeling of "what the fuck happened!?" Then you meet Jennifer Connelly. She looked sickly. But that's the way everyone looked in this movie. I don't know if its the way the movie was shot or if it was just bad makeup, but no one really looked that good. Most people looked sickly or anorexic. I also don't believe that Jennifer Connelly can be that kind of scientist. This has nothing to do with her being an attractive woman, she just was not able to convince me that she's that smart.
On the topic of characters, I'm going to comment on my least favorite: Jacob (Jaden Smith). He was just such a whiny bitch. He complained about everything and he didn't have any logic, reason, or common sense. He gave me no reason to like him. In fact, I despised him, through out the whole film, even when he somehow saved the day. I just couldn't like him at all.
Another character that I didn't like was Regina (Kathy Bates). I guess she was a character to parody the incredible destructiveness of the United States, but that probably makes me hate her more. She embodies America's "shoot first, ask later" mentality. She doesn't want to reason with Klatu (Keanu Reeves), she just wants to make him leave or kill him. Seriously, is that how people think? No one can be that unreasonable, can they?
Enough with the bad, let me talk about the good. I like Reeves' Klatu. I think he did a good job at remaining mysteriously dangerous. He didn't give much away, but still did quite a bit. He did look a little too skinny and sickly though...
The animation/CG was pretty damn good though. I enjoyed the scene when the sphere first landed on Earth. You didn't know what was going to happen and it all had an epic feel to it.
I did like the movie, I just think the execution and some of the cast could have been better. 7 out of 10.

A Hero's Struggle
After watching Heroes yesterday and recently watching Hancock, I noticed that the heroes had to fight and struggle in order to keep or get back their powers. Hiro keeps getting the short end of the stick in that department. When ever something goes right for him, it usually ends in heartache, disappointment, or turns into another struggle.
Well, that got me thinking...if you had any power, one that you would want to keep...would you go through the trials of a hero to keep those powers? Even if it meant going through heartache and never knowing if you'll actually succeed? Can you handle the struggle?
My answer is yes! If I had the chance to do something great with a power that's among a few elite, or even if I was the sole person on earth with a power, I would want to do something great. My life would be one long quest, complete with side missions and leveling up...but for real.

Why in God's Name am I Awake?
Well I suppose it's not really that early anymore, but for whatever reason I woke up at like 9:30 this morning. I suppose this is because 9:30 is about the latest I have been ALLOWED to sleep for the last few months... So I decided to use this time to post on the blog with the now seeming obligatory life update.
Warning: I'm smoking a bowl. And listening to dance music. If this even makes sense it will be a miracle.
So we'll get the simple questions out of the way. Am I seeing anybody? Fuck no. How's school? Still fine and still boring. How's teaching going? Extremely well, I am the best teacher ever. How's Bloomington? Still kinda sucks and is boring and has a notable lack of my friends in it (i.e. you guys).
Basically I work all the time. In some way or another. I haven't been this busy since high school. We have an exam basically every week in italian, which meets four days a week, I'm at school 12 hours a week just for my Grad Assistant duties, and let me tell you, if you haven't ever taught a class, it's about the most mentally exhausting thing I've ever done. It's so stressful to know that you are expected to be right all the time. And people take my word as the law. It's fucking insane, and makes my brain hurt. But teaching is very rewarding, and it's nice my students like me. And now in my free time I'm generally doing one of three things:
1) Smoking Pot, Drinking and Grading Papers
2) Smoking Pot, Drinking and Watching Syndicated Television
3) Smoking Pot, Drinking and Writing Music
About that last one. So yeah, I've actually been doing something productive and creative in my free time for a change and I've been writing electronic music. It's really fun, even though the program (logic express) makes my brain explode. I also feel like I have quite a knack for it, because the math-minded part of me understands the structure of that type of music, and the music-minded part of me understands the harmony and melodies and rhythms. I'm actually "done" with a song (or at least done for the time being because I need to stop nitpicking for a little while and move on). I'm really happy with how it sounds, but I'm kinda self conscious about it anyway so I'm not gonna post it because you guys don't like that type of music anyway :). I've been seriously looking into pricing out some digital/cd turntables and djing. I now have a connection to someone who's basically acquired this abandoned warehouse in the middle of nowhere and they're planning on having parties there with bands and djs etc. So that's pretty fuckin sweet. I would just want to DJ for fun, it just seems like a great hobby to take up, and it would be sweet to just be able to sit at home and mix while we're smoking, or as something different to do while tripping :). Dance party my place!!!

Seriously, WTF? These are a very small portion of the different Logic synthesizers I'm trying to figure out. Ow. My brain is leaking out my ears.
I was in this Romeo and Juliet as Mercutio for anyone who didn't know. I received rave reviews. I also have a small part in a show in April which is exciting. I also might be singing with the Mason orchestra in March as a soloist (yes, Mason does in fact have an orchestra apparently). I ALSO might have another part at the end of this semester and again at the beginning of next year. Basically I'm getting opportunities to perform all the time, which is a pretty big deal, seeing as how that's what I want to do. So I'm just keeping my fingers crossed.
I want to move to a city. I'm so sick of the midwest. On the plus side, it's gorgeous down here; unseasonably warm, the trees just barely starting to get that orange tint. It's awesome.
I hate that I haven't been able to go to any concerts lately. It makes me really depressed, but I just don't have the time or money. Oh well.
Despite all this, things are going really well. I'm really enjoying my alone time, and being so driven at the moment. I feel good about what I'm doing, and I really feel like I've found the path I'm supposed to be on. It's like I've started paying attention to the little hints life throws you to make sure you're going the right way. I'm not concerned about the decisions I make, because I finally feel like I have the life experience to make the right ones for me. I just feel very centered and happy. :)
I miss you all terribly, can't wait til Christmas when I'll get to see everyone for sure, hopefully I can come up before then though. Until then, don't forget you're always welcome to call me to chat, I'd love to hear what's going on in everyone's life.
Peace Toads

I'm Coming Home!
I finally get to take that 5 hour drive back home on Saturday. It's about time, I miss you guys. The only thing is that I'm going to be in Okemos for only about 20 minutes, then I'm going back to Washington til about Monday. So I'll be half back. Sorry, if you even care. I'll be glad to finally be back in Michigan though (wow, never thought I'd say that) were I'm not stuck in a hotel room. Not a moment too soon either, because the wireless here is so fucking slow, even now at 5am. 5am! It's slower than dial up, which makes me want to punch babies in the throat and throw puppies at sharks. Anyways, I can't wait to be back and maybe we can get into some shenanigans.

Tina Fey Saves SNL
Well, sort of. I didn't watch the full episode, but I did see the opening skit. Hilarious. So, incase you missed it:
(Sorry, but a fucking streaming video is all I could find. I fucking HATE streaming videos because of all the fucking choppiness)
And this is just funny. I know it's kinda old, but you may have not seen it (sorry for the poor quality):
Also, seriously, someone post something!

Movie News from Comic-Con '08
There were some amazing announcements this year at Comic-Con, the uber-geek's wet dream convention.
Anyone who has seen The Dark Knight is well aware of Watchmen being made into a movie. I never read the comics, but the movie looks amazing. I might pick that one up...
There's a little vampire movie called Twilight that is generating a huge amount of buzz lately. From what I've read it was a book adapted into a movie about a girl falling in love with a vampire...or something. I'm sure kiznox will wet his pants for that one.
A new Terminator movie is set for an '09 release with Terminator Salvation, which is supposed to be a reinvention of the series. With the reinvention master, Christian Bale as the star. The Governator is rumored to make an appearance in the film.
Super awesome big news: the Wolverine movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine is supposedly done filming. The story follows Logan (Wolverine) and Victor Creed (Sabertooth) as mercenaries who join the Weapon X program. Oh yeah, and the movie has Gambit! Wet pants now.
I've never seen the original The Day The Earth Stood Still, but the remake looks stunning, and so does Jennifer Connelley. Keanu Reeves plays an alien.
Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian were both at Comic-Con promoting their stupid non-porno films. My question is, does anyone actually care about these girls and why haven't they died yet?
Sam Raimi has two bits of movie news at the show. First is a new campy horror flick Drag Me To Hell, which I know nothing about. It stars Alison Lohman, who is rather hot. The other bit of news is the possibility of a new Evil Dead movie. If they bring back Bruce Campbell as Ash, then I'm all for it.
The comic book adaptation of Red Sonja is coming to theaters in 2010, starring the super fine Rose McGowan wearing barely any clothes. I know nothing about this, but count me in!
Footage from Tron 2 was shown at the show. Makes me wish I saw the first one...oh wait, I'm sure I have at least a year before it comes out to catch up on my Tron-icles.
This little ditty called Push stars Chris Evans, a potty-mouthed (supposedly) Dakota Fanning, and Djimon Hounsou (the bounty hunter from The Island). Its sorta like a superhero movie with the "heroes" on the run. Psychic powers abound!
There are sequels to Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street. The former is supposed to have a faster, smarter Jason as opposed to the slower, Frankensteinish Jason of past films. I'm intrigued, but I'm sure the movies will still (as they always have) suck.
What does Kevin Smith+Seth Rogan+Justin Long=? Probably a fucking hilarious movie. That's exactly what I hope Zack and Miri Make A Porno will become. Justin Long is a gay porn star, hilarity ensues.
Oh yeah, Robocop has been confirmed as a retelling of the original story. Looks like the new Batman franchise has started a trend...
And yes, G.I. Joe and Transformers: Rise of the Fallen are being made and are surely gonna make everyone wet in the pants. As I hear it, the beginning of Transformers is a giant action scene (Go Michael Bay!)
Sadly, most of these are about a year away.

Here I Am in Life...
I just graduated college, with what seems like no knowledge. I don't feel like I have anything to offer the world, which makes getting a job a bitch. Now, I have been offered a corporate job with JJs, which is awesome...but now I don't know if I want to take it. I don't think I really want a job like that. I need a change of pace.
I went home last weekend and talked to Larry. He brought up that he might join the Navy, which is a huge shocker coming from him. But that got me thinking, why don't I join the military? I know someone in the Navy, and he's been to the other side of the world (not to fight, but to train and such) and he says that the experience is amazing. I think that's what I need right now. I think I need to get away from here. Traveling while getting paid and trained just seems right.
After graduating I thought I would have some discipline and direction, but I'm realizing that I really don't. Joining the military (Air Force, Navy, or Army) could provide me with the direction I need, along with helping me advance my skills and possibly learn a new trade along the way. Since I graduated college, I automatically start off at a higher rank/pay grade, so I have that going for me if I join.
Yeah, I do have a fear of joining and then seeing action, but I do believe that this is something that I need. My mom even told me that I should join. There are so many paths that I can choose after my service is complete that this seems like a good choice for me.
I know you guys have mixed thoughts about the military, but right now I'm about 80% sure I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna try to find an Air Force (the branch that most interests me right now) recruitment center and get as much info as possible. Obviously I'll let you guys know what I ultimately decide, but my decision will probably be within the next couple of months.
Yeah, I bet you were not expecting that one.

Advancing My Skills
So I was walking with The Goerg earlier, and I told him about my idea to join a martial arts class next year. I was thinking that something like that would be a good skill to have. The Goerg agreed. You never know when you'll end up in a bar fight, or a fight at a party, or in a fight at the zoo. Being able to defend yourself properly is very useful and I don't know why I never did this before.
What if, in the unlikely but plausible scenario, aliens came down from space and started attacking. But they were impervious to bullets, but not to karate chops. Or groin kicks. So you have to karate chop and groin kick your way to defeating the aliens, who mysteriously don't use air strikes, but that's because they're stupid aliens who die from karate chops. So, if that ever happened (it could happen, you never fucking know), then I would like to have the know-how to karate chop those bastards with the most efficiency...and possibly break a board or 2 along the way.
I also think I'm going to teach myself to play the guitar sometime in the near future. It took me too long to get into trying this, I know, but now I really have the desire to play it. Also, you have to be able to play a rocking guitar solo after you karate chop some mother fucking aliens! ROCKN'ROLLA!!!
