After much research and digging through the web, with the help of the wonderful Freedom of Information Act/Google/Wikipedia/several Law sites, I have finally figured out why we cannot bring beer down that walkway at Liberty Park. You know the one I am talking about; betwixt the main bar, The Dugout, and the concession stands. THAT walkway.
As it turns out, my initial theories were wrong.
Theory #1
The owners of Liberty Park are gigantic assholes that like to ruin my beer drinking fun. For some unknown reason, they like to taunt patrons with the IDEA that you could possibly have a beer in your dugout during a game, and then tear that beautiful idea out of your head the moment you walk toward the field.
Theory #2
The owners of Liberty Park have a brilliant marketing scheme. Think about it like this: You have roughly 10 minutes to game time and you just bought another beer at the Dugout. Sucks for you, because you are on diamond 7 tonight and you have yet to finish your beer. So, before you make it to that dreaded walkway, you slam the entire beer as quickly as possible...which, in turn, makes you want more beer. Because beer is like Pringles, "Once you pop, you cant stop". Anyway, you slam that beer and walk to the field, but not before stopping at the next concession stand to buy another beer. Get it? Got it. Sexy.
Here is the deal:
Liberty Park has, obviously, a liquor license to serve on their premesis. However, the city of Sterling Heights has had a multitude of problems with the bars on that side of town. Essentially, the bar patrons in Warren have, in the past, caused numerous accidents/fights near the border of the two cities. This leads to a jurisdiction nightmare that the police absolutely hate dealing with. So, the city amended the liquor license for Liberty Park years ago to only cover the main bar and a specific radius around it. (the picnic tables and immediate bleachers nearby) Because the park already had concession stands located elswhere, and because they wanted to profit, they applied for another liquor license that covers the stand and the immediate area surrounding it. (just the picnic tables nearby) So the plan for the next couple years is to build another concession stand in the area that is currently under construction. As far as I found, they are planning a gazebo structure near the beginning of the walkway that would house a fully loaded bar like the one inside the Dugout. Then they will be applying for a new liquour license on all of the property that would allow beer to be held by people in the bleachers.
So yeah, even though I am moving in a week, I thought that this would be pertinent information for me to know.
