The moderate speaks

So about U of M...

I will agree (MSU people lower your weapons) that I don't think that U of M should be dropped from the list. It is true that they have been quite a powerhouse for a long time, and one significant loss, regardless of how much of an upset it was, is not enough to assume a team has gone down the shitter.

That being said, Rambo (I'm on your side) I don't exactly see where you find evidence that U of M is probably "the most prestigious team in college football". That's a pretty lofty statement, especially coming from someone who is so unabashedly biased. If I were to rant about Manchester United being the most prestigious team in the European league, I would have a lot of supporters, but it would be a pretty unfair criticism.

Sports teams and their rankings are a strange creature indeed. In the preseason, there's really not much founding in how college teams are ranked besides considering the following facts:
a) The past success of the current coach
b) The past success of the returning players
c) The abilities of the new recruits
d) The overall history of the team

A sports match is never guaranteed to go one way or another. I've watched far superior teams lose games with stupid mistakes, or even more unfortunately, bad calls. I've watched underdogs come out of nowhere and clobber teams that got cocky. In the end, the only thing that matters in sports is the end result, and so if the Associated Press, in all their infinite wisdom, decides to drop UofM, then all that matters from here on out is that the team pick themselves up, brush themselves off, and jump back on the horse.
