Triumphant return

HELLO! This is partially in response to Hock's last post but also because I have missed writing on this blog (short of the WYR) for quite a while. I took a little time this morning to look through a lot of our old posts from 2007 and read some of the comments, philosophical debates, overall bitching and just plain old fun discussions. I think back fondly on all of those times as I remembered writing so many of them. I hope everything is well with everyone and my sincerest apologies to you Kiznox for never returning your call, I always seem to get sidetracked and want to have a real conversation where I'm not moving around all the time and can focus on the conversation, plus the fact that I do not know your schedule. Let me know what it is and I will try to schedule (that's what my life has become) a real chunk of time to sit down and chat. Alright, without further APU (oh I have been zinged and I love it!) let me catch you up on the life of Rambo Dakota since we last talked...

First and foremost I should probably talk about the biggest thing going on in my life right now and that would be my job. Working for HR has given me quite a lot of experience with all aspects of HR and, so far at least, I am loving what I do. That is a feeling I hope stays but I have great coworkers and a kick ass boss who I get along with great. We usually grab lunch together almost everyday (we are the only two guys in the department) and just shoot the shit. I have gotten to know so many people within the organization and have a lot of great relationships with managers, other HR reps and even employees/candidates. So that is that in terms of the job, I'm pretty adjusted to full time employment and getting up every morning at 6:25. The nights aren't long anymore, which sucks sometimes, but I still get my fun in.

I plan on going back to school for my Masters Degree at some point, but I have taken some time to adjust to full time work and not having to work in my school schedule with a full time job. Those two will have to cross paths at some point but for right now I don't want them to. I'm thinking an MBA would be best, that way I can stay at OU but if I decide to get the Masters in HR, I would need to go somewhere else. More on that to come.

Here are some quick bullet points with some other things going on right now:

- Looking into houses thanks to the current market, going to start physically looking at some soon with a family friend who is a realtor.

- We have been getting a group together every weekend for the Michigan games (I know you guys really don't care so much) and watching the games together. Just drink a lot of beer and yell at the TV...awesome.

- Still go to Wild Bills every Thursday...and Monday...and Tuesday after bowling...

- I just saw Rascal Flatts in concert (Hock you wanted to know the concerts so here you go) at the Palace with Candice, Tom, Josh and Justin. It was awesome and we tailgated from 5-8 in the parking lot. Love tailgating!

- Another season with Grandpa, Dad and Keith at the Lions games, which also includes tailgating and a pit stop at Greektown. As badly as they suck, these games have become tradition and I don't know what I would do on Sundays if we weren't going.

- I have really gotten into the show "Two and a Half Men" which is just awesome. I have the first 4 seasons on DVD and there isn't a bad episode in the bunch.

- I really do need to catch up on every "Heroes", still haven't done that.

- House, Lost, The Shield, Raising the Bar (Zack Morris with long hair), among other shows are the ones currently ready to record on my DVR.

- Bud Light is the beer of choice...a choice I make often.

- I can't wait for "The Dark Knight" DVD to come out on December 9th!

- "Zodiac" was a long movie Hock, I didn't realize it until I wanted to take a nap half way through too. Good movie, just too long.

- I got a Blackberry and damn it is addicting! Love it though, it's a sweet piece o' technology.

- I hope that the jobs that my fellow bloggers and friends have are all going well! My best wishes to all of you, of course. Any help I can ever be please don't hesitate to ask (look at your resume, interview tips, etc.)

Alright, I'm out of things to say I believe. Hope that gives you a quick (for Rambo it's quick) overview of my life at the moment. Hope to see you all soon.

P.S. I started this post at 9:27 AM and finished around 1:30 PM...that's my crazy work life for ya.

I Haven't Been Around Much...

...And I'm sorry for that. I have been way too busy with work, school, and hanging out with some friends I haven't seen in a while. Sue me. So keep that in mind when I don't post as much this school year. I don't have a desk job where I can look at news stories all day (cough kiznox, rambo cough). I will try my hardest to bring you the latest happenings in this world.

In related news, Hank lost his wallet tonight. Tragic event.

In other news, we found some new patio furniture and a new coffee table. All rejoice!

I fear for our children

Why do I fear for our children you ask? Apparently we cannot even spell or pronounce even the basic of words let alone taking the time to try and work out (in our COLLEGE EDUCATED heads) words like discriminatory, idealism, deontology, normative, and implementing. Honestly, how can juniors and seniors in college not know words like these, or at the very very least be able to logically work out how to pronounce it in their heads?? Take a minute before your speech and go through the words that appear difficult for you and pronounce them a bunch of times so you don't make yourself look like an officially stamped DUMBASS! God forbid you ever ask someone else how to pronounce a word because that would mean that I would be spared the fact that I die a little inside everytime you retards misspell or mispronounce a word you should not be able to butcher so!

Also, I find it extremely necessary (and professional) to proofread your presentations and your handouts PRIOR to your presentation as anyone who entitles a heading of a slide "Ways to determine weather a person is performing his or her job adequately and ethically" deserves to be stabbed in the eye with my lit cigarette. I have three things to say on this slide heading:

(1) That heading is waaaay to long...morons
(2) How can you spell words like adequately and ethically correctly but not the easier word whether?
(3) You have proven yourself so incompetent to this point I no longer have any interest in listening to you because I am (a) embarassed for you and (b) am making fun of you with my fellow classmates.

Is it our schools? Is it our incompetence as a society? Or is it simply that growing up we all just went through the motions of school and did the bare minimum and not really retaining anything? Are we challenging our kids enough nowadays or are we allowing them to be constantly lazy? Has TV really killed all those times when we would otherwise read a book or have a nice ole talk with the family? In the end it does not matter because simple facts indicate that if you are in a profession or class where you are giving multiple presentations (as a lot of college majors have now) than you need to know the proper way to prepare and present your slides and presentation. You are in front of your peers and are showing very poor professionalism, which is ultimately unacceptable in college but especially in the working world. If things like this are not nipped quickly you are going to be having much more problems than just spelling errors. How can all of this be acceptable to you? I wonder because it damn sure is not acceptable to us.

A little more in support of Dakota

I once had a conversation with my mother, who was born basically right smack dab in the middle of the baby boom, or more relevantly, during the time that produced the majority of parents of young people with the ability to vote today. I complained once to her about George W. Bush, and she mentioned the fact that as much as we wish it were not the case, JFK was the only president in her lifetime to have been worth anything (presidentially that is) and that he was not given long enough in office to demonstrate his full potential.

So now it's time for me to expand off of that (trust me Dakota, I'm not much of a politician myself, but I'm backing you up on this one). Since the baby boomer era, we have all been a part of the media age - beginning to some small degree with the rapid printing press, expanded far more by the growing popularity of radios, even more with that of television, again in the nineties with the PC era, and now at its highest iteration with the widespread popularity of the cellular phone. We live in an age where generally, less than twenty-four hours will elapse between something occurring, and our ability to hear about it (and that is very generous - most of the time information is available within minutes). I would even venture as far as to say, the American public knows too much about its government, and prospective leaders, and that knowledge causes us to have unnecessarily high expectations of our presidents - not to say that they should not be able to deliver, but that they are promising more than they can, in order to please the public.

Let's examine not only the places where some of our more recent presidents had shortcomings, but where those shortcomings have been complicated by what took place in reality. A perfect example - Georgey Sr. is famous for his speech at the Republican National Convention. After a long period of heavy recession from Carter and Reagan, Bush Sr. stated "Read my lips: no new taxes." Sounds pretty good to me! Peggy Noonan (Bush's speechwriter) definitely knew what she was doing, and what the American Public needed to hear in order to get him the vote. Unfortunately, two years later, under pressure from democrats and many more moderate republicans, he was forced to raise taxes anyway. Clinton's oval office rendezvous gave birth to Bush Jr's "down-home, American values." And this isn't the first time that suspected immorality gave way to a friendly, deep south Christian - many say that Carter won over Ford more because he was not involved with the previous presidencies (i.e. Watergate) and he offered a kind of retribution from the events of the previous few years.

In the upcoming election, Democrats clearly have the advantage - we've had eight years with a president who has not been in the public's support for at least four years, thanks to an extremely unpopular war. Democrats tend to be more on the pro peace platform, and that's what Americans want. In my opinion, however, we're in deeper than we want to admit. I think that we are still far away from peace between the middle east and the u.s. simply because nothing has truly been resolved (there is a lot to be said for the opinion that we can't exactly figure out what needs to be resolved, but that will make this rant go on for way longer than it already has). The American government has set themselves up with a lose-lose situation. Withdrawing from the Middle East will likely still not do much in the way of helping the economy. And at the end of the war, things will just start over again if we are attacked or bombed again. God forbid, but it is a real concern that we should have. I'm going to set aside the next thought for staying power.

The president cannot control what will happen during their presidency, only those things that they want to prevent from happening.

A president does not usually foresee an economic slump, or being attacked by a foreign power, or saying something incredibly stupid in a speech. Presidents are just people like anyone else, but people with the ability to say yes or no when it comes to new laws (remember our three branches people? President gets to say when we go to war, and besides that, he only okays what others have already decided in other branches of government).

So let me tie this into Dakota's post a little better now that I've offered these disjointed thoughts on government for approximately the last hour of my life. Americans do not vote as often as they should not only because there hasn't been a good president, but because even when we've tried to pick a good one, they have failed at what we really wanted them to accomplish, because their platform is more about image than implementation. Even looking at hot button issues, what would you do if you were president? Take gay marriage for example: alright I would just go ahead and okay that one, fuck you Conservative Christians :). Seriously though, gay marriage. If your paycheck and popularity as the SINGLE MOST RECOGNIZABLE CELEBRITY IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY depended largely on making people like you no matter what, I would take the moderate route a good deal as well. We offer our citizens the freedom to believe what they'd like to, but human nature is to remain divided about 50/50 on any issue in the world. We are better at complaining than praising. Even small steps forward are seen as "not far enough" to the side that supports and "way beyond the line" to those that are opposed. It is simply impossible to please a nation that wants the economy to improve, gas prices to go down, the war to end, and everyone of its opinions to be eventually on the level with the nation's goals.

So where do we go from here? People will not start voting regularly unless they feel that what they do in a vote matters - and after the hanging chad fiasco a few years back, it will likely be years until that trust is restored. Some progress has been made though. We are in the midst of a social and cultural revolution. In our generation, we're simply expected to be more well-versed in just about everything - because even someone who never leaves the house can be an expert in pretty much any field they want to at the click of a button. Already, at least the younger population is already leaning to more moderate stances, because we can read both sides of the argument, instead of only hearing what we want. As much of a pain in the ass as it was, I'm glad my high school does a three day long formal debate every junior year - at least it's nice to know that whether or not people like it, they at least hear what both sides have to say.

So I kinda went all over the place on that one, and mixed in some stuff that really wasn't on the topic of where I started, but I'm not getting graded on this, so deal with it!

Rambo Dakota Political Rant

I know...shocking isn't it? Rambo has a political situation to talk about? Did the Lions just win the Super Bowl because I think Hell just froze over! Fellow readers fear not...just sit back and enjoy and I promise there are no signs of the apocalypse nigh.

I was talking to one of my friends the other day while at his apartment and we began talking about, of all things, politics. We started by talking about a problem that has arisen by the low amount (percentage wise) of people in the US who actually vote in scheduled elections. It is easy to register but how many actually go out there and vote on Election Day? Just take a look at the numbers from the 2006 Congressional elections:

House of Representatives election voter turnout: 36.8%
Senate election voter turnout: 29.7%

My God man! Compared to other countries like England and France, which had close to 85% of the registered voters end up at the polls. 85% compared to nearly 37%?? Wow. My friend looked at me as we discussed this low number and he asked me why I thought our turnout was so low compared to these other countries. I said to myself, and eventually to him, that I had never really thought about it until this very moment. If I did have to give an answer my hypothesis would be that we, as a country, simply dislike and are ashamed of our government. This is not to say we are not proud to say we are American but whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, based off of these voting numbers, something is wrong with getting you to the polls...or you just feel that is unnecessary because either (a) you feel one vote does not make a difference or (b) you just are that lazy and decide it is not important. There are people out there, one of whom writes on this very blog, that would research and debate to the ends of the Earth just what candidate he believes is best suited for the job. In the end all that matters is that it is truly that...a belief. You can research every aspect of every candidate or you can vote a straight ticket but either way you are putting faith and belief into someone who, looking at recent elections, has not produced the desired result. No matter which way you slice it there is no real sign of progress of getting these potential voters off their asses and voting every Election Day. Then I thought to myself...how did we get to this position? How did we get to the point where no one wants to vote? Hmmm...

Political mumbo jumbo is not, and probably never will be, my strong suit nor a topic that peaks my interest but at the end of the day I love history and I often do think how things would be different had so many things not happened to our country both politically and socially. It is in this that I find the answer to my earlier question...how did we get to this position where no one wants to vote? I believe the answer lies within history...as does most actions in the political world. I looked at my friend after we determined that it was hating our government that has gotten us here but when did it begin? I believe that the true downfall of our government came over 40 years ago when the most potential ever seen in a President was gunned down November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas.

It has been said by people much more qualified than myself that JFK's assassination was one of the biggest turning points in American history. JFK was a graduate of Harvard with a degree in International Affairs, he voluntarily joined the US Navy for which he recieved a Purple Heart during WWII, and became a Senator in 1952. He became an example of how practicing a religion does not have to totally dominate a Presidency either: "I am not the Catholic candidate for President. I am the Democratic Party's candidate for President who also happens to be a Catholic. I do not speak for my Church on public matters — and the Church does not speak for me." He participated in the first televised Presidential Debates against Republican Richard Nixon. John F. Kennedy was sworn in as the 35th President at noon on January 20, 1961. In his inaugural address he spoke of the need for all Americans to be active citizens, famously saying, "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." He also asked the nations of the world to join together to fight what he called the "common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself." In closing, he expanded on his desire for greater internationalism: "Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you."

JFK instantly began on creating his own Foreign Policy by instilling what the Eisenhower administration had created to invade Cuba hoping to remove Fidel Castro from power, known as the Bay of Pigs Invasion. Although it did not produce the desired result, JFK took full responsibility for his actions (more than some Presidents can say) and did leave Castro thinking that another invasion could occur at any time. He also faced the Cuban Missle Crisis but resolved that with Khrushchev. He also created the Peace Corps. It is often debated as to whether the Vietnam crisis would have escalated as far as it did had Kennedy been re-elected in 1964 but we will never know...and this is where the turn takes place. LBJ had stated that he disapproved of pulling out of Vietnam, shown by almost immediately following the assassination reversing JFK's order for the removal of 1,000 troops by the end of 1963.

On June 26, 1963, Kennedy visited West Berlin and gave a public speech criticizing communism. Kennedy used the construction of the Berlin Wall as an example of the failures of communism: "Freedom has many difficulties and democracy is not perfect, but we have never had to put a wall up to keep our people in." The speech is known for its famous phrase "Ich bin ein Berliner".

Kennedy called his domestic program the "New Frontier". It ambitiously promised federal funding for education, medical care for the elderly, and government intervention to halt the recession. Kennedy also promised an end to racial discrimination. In 1963, he proposed a tax reform which included income tax cuts, but this was not passed by Congress until 1964, after his death. Few of Kennedy's major programs passed Congress during his lifetime, although, under his successor Johnson, Congress did vote them through in 1964–65.

JFK has become one of the most admired people in US History, whether it be for his Presidential practices or his social/family life. In the end though, tragedy and utter disbelief overran the United States on the November afternoon. The political and social distrust occurred here not only because of this assassination but because of the prior assassinations of Kennedy's brother Robert (RFK) and Martin Luther King, Jr.

After that little biopic of JFK let us look at why I believe that we have lost so much faith in our Presidents and our government since his death: LBJ made the Vietnam conflict worse after Kennedy's death, Richard Nixon had Watergate, Gerald Ford offered a pardon to Nixon and was in office during the time of 7 percent inflation causing recession, Carter had control of a horrific economy consisting of double-digit inflation, oil shortages, and high unemployment, Reagan had all of these, Bush Sr. had another economic recession following the Gulf War, Clinton had the "office politics" problem, and George W. Bush is George W. Bush.

This is not meant as a Presidential bashing as each of the above listed have had their fair share of positive acts while in office but none have done enough to overtake what Carter called a "crisis of confidence." When will our confidence in our government return? We've got a new President to be named in 2008...let's start there! Get out there and take back this country voters. Make your voices heard and show the government that we have moved on since 1963 and that we are confident they can lead us effectively...at least once W is out of office.

Things like this make me happy for humanity

It is instances like this which happened in Indiana, where nothing really happens period, that give me faith that there are good, decent human beings out there who DO generally care about others. I know that sounds like I hate people...but for the most part I do because they are stupid, arragent, distasteful, and selfish. However, when you look deep down you can find some who truly are good (a la "I see the good in you father (Darth Vader) let go of your hate"). Hooray humanity!

It is especially amazing how much money this woman, who already has two kids on top of that, was so willing to give that amount of money (granted it is from a foundation she started) to help out a girl who desperately wanted to go to college. The money is an investment in the future of someone who she trusts to spend the money wisely.

Trust...what a marvelous word. It is so vague yet so specific. It is easy for someone to say "I trust you" but what do they really mean? I trust you to be honest with me? I trust that I know you will not lead me astray? I trust that I know you will lie to me? It can any degree of exceptions to the definiton. This girl could take that money and run off and never look back. She could also become a productive member of society, if not already, by going to college and getting that much deserved education. Trust. I said it was easy before but that can be a gross understatement as well. For some their trust is not so easily given out, for others it is. I trust a lot of my friends and family with my life and my secrets but it was not always easy to do. You get burned sometimes and it stings for a long time trying to figure out how to handle it and how to move on but the important thing to remember, as is one of my mantras, is that when you get hurt you get back up and it only is detrimental to you if you do not learn something from it. It is not cowardly to trust in others to help you, it is not inhuman to trust your instincts that you will make the right decision, and it is amazing the feeling you can have when someone you trust is there for you no matter what and, sometimes, without ever having to ask. I think we all strive to have at least one of those people that we can trust with our problems, with our secrets, and with our life. That person that will never lead you astray, that person who will stand by you no matter what life throws your way, that person who will pick up the phone at 4 am if you need to talk about something, that person who will show you that other side to the story you're spinning, and that person who, at the end of the day, is the person you will go to and thank for everything they ever do for you. We don't do that enough, we don't thank those who push us, those who have looked out for us, and those who have meant the most to us. So do it. Do it now. Go tell that person or persons that you have been thinking of throughout this entire rant. You know there is a person who first came into your mind when you started reading this and I hope that you tell them enough how you feel. I, honestly, have not done what I preach as of late and that is why I feel it is important to drill this into the heads of all you readers out there. Trust...what a marvelous word.

The Rambler's Weekly WYR

Once again, thanks to College Humor, we are brought upon the conundrums of our lives that we may never truly think about. They are not important sometimes but dammit they are interesting! Here goes another installment of Would You Rather?

Would you rather...

1. Fight Sub-Zero or Scorpion?

Ah Mortal Kombat, how you've touched us all. Well let's see...Scorpion with his spears, teleporting, fire breath, and his summoning of hellfire vs. Sub-Zero with his deep freeze, slides, ice showers, and his cold shoulder. Man I would be dead in like half a minute regardless but if I DID stand a chance somehow I would probably be more apt to fight Sub-Zero. You cannot fight with fire when you have none, however with ice there is a chance you can use it to your advantage as it is a solid substance that you can touch and not shriek in pain!

2. Only eat potato chips or only eat Pringles?

This one isn't too hard. There are so many types of potato chips to choose from, which is not to say there aren't a lot of flavors of Pringles, that you cannot go wrong there. I would miss BBQ Pringles but that is a sacrifice I'm willing to make for the following: Better Maid BBQ, Lays Masterpiece BBQ, Sun Chips, and Fritos (if those count as chips of some kind).

3. Not shower for a year or wear the same thing every day without washing it for a year?

It may just be questions like this that make me wonder about the human brain and how it can, at times, be totally unable to produce anything of value to society. In response to this marvelous question...I gotta go with the same thing every day without washing it because even though that is not cleaned at least you are, and you don't always have to have clothes on...am I right ladies? Oh who am I kidding...

4. Have a stutter or a lazy eye?

Well I will say that a lazy eye can be "corrected" with glasses and it will always be noticeable...as will your stutter. I think I would get so flustered with the stutter I might hit myself in the face and probably be in a speech class to correct it ASAP. It is questions like this that make me love "Would You Rather" because either way I could be kinda sexy, yet creepy at the same time!

5. Have sex with a person of your same gender or a monkey of the opposite?

Wow. There is not a lot of words to describe this question. Wow. Umm...I have no interest in fucking a monkey period. Thank you.

6. Have a paper cut between your fingers that never heals or always have a pebble in your shoe?

Interestingly enough I would have to go with the pebble. Eventually the pebble will be in a position that you will not feel it, we all know how those friggin paper cuts in between your fingers can kick your ass. That is not to say the pebble wouldn't be a huge pain in the ass but it's only a pebble.

7. Always smell like eggs or always smell like milk?

I don't know if I've been around people who smell like either of these so...I'm not so sure. I mean if you're talking like cooked eggs then fuck yeah. See milk has no real good smell about it and it is not a very interesting smell. Eggs are not either but they are something better than milk...especially if cooked...mmmmm eggs.

8. Would you rather be an insufferable ass who everyone hates but who has a lot of moeny, or be poor but be esteemed by your peers?

I could not stand to be an insufferable ass. What good is money if you have no one to share it with or enjoy the benefits of it with? No good that's what. You can be the richest person in the world but if everyone hates you then you serve no purpose because you have failed as a human being. You have failed in one of the most key aspects of life: relationships. Life by itself is a wonderful journey but that journey cannot ever be complete without picking up some companions on the way to help you in different ways and give you those memorable moments.

For all those friends of mine who I have picked up on this journey of life so far, thank you and I'm glad you could be along for the long walk.

Would you rather...

I found the Weekly WYR (would you rather) on College Humor just now and figured it might be fun to let you take a look at it and go a little in depth as to which I would choose. These questions were posted by random people who emailed the author of this article. I will only refer to the person who posted the question if they annoy me.

Would you rather...

1. Be blind or have the hiccups for the rest of your life?

Wow this is a tough one to start off with. I guess you would adjust to being blind and you could still do a lot of things, although in a different way but having the hiccups all day long while your trying to eat and drink would eventually give you pain I would think. I get the hiccups sometimes and if it falls in the middle of me eating or drinking something I could choke or have some chest pain from it. All in all I would obviously rather be neither, but I will go with blind.

2. Hit every stop light and know that you will never be in an accident or always hit greens and know that someday you will be in a terrible crash?

Let me first say that I've been in a terrible crash and I would never like for that to happen again. If the decision is simply based off hitting green or red lights, which I would only love it to be so simple, then I would have to say that I have to say green lights but with hesitation. Hitting red lights is not always a bad thing but if I had to hit every single one of them for the rest of my life...ouch. However, that ouch is nothing compared to what may happen to you should you get into a terrible accident (could be nothing or could be severe). In light of that I am going to choose hitting red lights.

3. Have no teeth or no ears?

I'm going to say no teeth because I am going to translate this conundrum by saying that you saying I cannot have teeth would be defined to me as no REAL teeth. In light of this new evidence I say no teeth because I'm just gonna go get false ones! Take that you bastard teeth! How do you feel now? Ears are getting laid and you are not! HA!

4. Get beat up in front of your friends by your younger brother or your older sister?

No brainer here. You get beat up by your younger brother as I am a guy writing this to you. Any one of us know that if you got your ass kicked by a girl, let alone your younger sister, as a guy you would be ridiculed until the day you die. Thank you but I can get ridiculed enough as it is without even having a sister.

5. Have a permanent light spot in your right eye or a permanent ringing in your ears?

This one is a little different too. I have a ringing every so often...don't ask why...but if it was permanent I might just go crazy. You would get used to either one of these problems relatively quickly I would think as they are both minor inconveniences to your daily life. In the end I am going to go with the ringing because I don't wanna mess around with my eyes by any means.

6. Have sex with Jessica Alba on a bed of nails or have sex with Fergie on a bed of roses?

Jessica Alba...hands down...if I get to fuck that woman I don't care where we are...next question. When is that gonna happen? Now? That would be super.

7. Be Aquaman or the kid with Heart from Captain Planet?

8. Be unemployed the rest of your life or have to go to college the rest of your life?

I know that unemployment is extremely tempting and going to college is not. However I'm wondering if they are not one in the same because a lot of people who go to college do not work because they are devoted to their college work...or they're spoiled and their parents pay for everything. Unemployment is doable if you can get unemployment checks and live off the government as a shit load of people in this country do but I believe I could and would be extremely uber-bored for the rest of my life (unless I had a family to take care of). However, college is a way to constantly better yourself but I think if you did it for the rest of your life you would surely go absolutely insane and your head would explode. So I'm going with unemployment and I'll take my chances with Uncle Sam.

9. Have a younger sister who is really hot or really ugly?

I think if I had a younger sister who was really hot I would worry about her too much but the same would go for the ugly sister, only in different ways. The hot sister I would have to worry about all those bastard teenagers (that I once was) ogling over every her step and every time she bends over to pick something up. I would trust her to handle herself but I also open myself up to what I do with some of my friends...the atypical "Your sister is fuckin' hot dude!" Now if my sister was ugly I would worry she would be shunned by people for the way she looked because during those teenage years especially kids are extremely cruel to someone they deem different or unworthy. She could find herself someone but when I think ugly sister I think Meg from Family Guy and the shit she goes through. So the answer is hot sister due to the fact that the reason the other sister is ugly is because it's Meg's fault.

10. Have chair demolishing fart explosions or always have gas and never fart?

First I say, "Jesus Christ" to Kevin for his marvelous depiction of such a wonderful daily occurrence, especially when labeled "chair demolishing." Always having gas and never farting is something that I dealt with when I had abdominal surgery and that was not fun at all. There was a moment that I was in so much pain it was unbearable. Knowing that feeling is just as bad, if not close to worse, than when I had my kidney stones I think you know what I'm picking.

11. Be nicknamed "The Big Sticky" or "OafLoaf"?

What? Tyler are you nicknamed OafLoaf? I hope so because that is the stupidest nickname ever and this is a stupid question, so good for you. You have become another reason that aliens should come down and enslave all the dumbass people like you.

12. Never be able to use a cell phone or never be able to drive a car?

This one is pretty easy because it comes down to simple common sense. A cell phone is not a necessity in life, it is a privilege. A car is a necessity and a privilege. Need I say more? You have to get from point A to point B and, God willing, back to point A with a car and that cell phone you don't have isn't going to make one damn bit of difference to you getting there. I agree that cell phones can be extremely useful for idiots like me who don't ever know where they are going but at least I have a car to get there in.

13. Have a magic war versus Dumbledore from Harry Potter or Gandolf from Lord of the Rings?

I love both of these movie franchises and I believe that I can give you a legitimate answer as to why I choose what I choose. I love Gandolf, he is my favorite LOTR character by far but he cannot compete with Dumbledore. Gandolf has his staff but I cannot compete with the power that the wand of Dumbledore would pack. I have seen far to many spells from Dumbledore that could honestly render me helpless as an infant. Gandolf is not the type of wizard that is meant to dominate in a battle and I believe Dumbledore is...and I think we'll see that in the next few Harry Potter movies.

You thought cigarettes were addicting

We, as a nation, are addicted to technology. We live it, we breathe it, we soak it in everyday. We are dependent on it's functions and abilities. Now we have yet another technological innovation: iPhone.

Imagine, if you will, a 4-gig or 8-gig phone with the ability to use the internet, use a media player, and all other cell phone options. That is the iPhone. A clusterfuck of technology for $499-$599 with an AT&T phone plan that starts at a minimum of $59.99 a month for two years. People have been waiting in line for three to four days! Jesus!

I will say the same thing that I always say when it comes to new technology...it is going to have bugs and you wanted to have that brand new phone the instant it hits the shelves without thinking that it may not even be worth it if it has great problems. Wait. It's not hard. Wait a few months and let them find the kinks and get feedback from America on how good or bad the phone is.

Well here is to another fad that we will be hearing about for a long time.

Why is it that people just can't even be the slightest bit polite? How hard is it to say "Thank you" or "Please?" I'll tell you how...not very! Oh whatever at this point...I'm just on my last leg right now because I have been yawning constantly since 10am. I just wanna go home and take a nap.

Also, it has come to my attention that I still have what it takes to get people through difficult times. I was getting a little rusty for a while because I was the one going through it but my God there are some effed up people out there and one of them is playing games with one of my good friends. He loves her though...and I guess that has to count for something. Oh well, just my ramblings to kill time.

In totally unrelated news, while posting this blog I had a Freudian slip while talking to someone and their seemingly "significant other." As I was finishing up with them I said what became a little laughing stock of my coworkers:

Dear God did I have to hold that laughter in until they walked far enough away...and my coworkers nearly died. Wow.

Just a few random thoughts

As I sit covering the West entrance I figured that I could kill this boring, lonely time with some random thoughts that I have had throughout the day.

I am saddened that Bob Barker has officially taped his last show of "The Price Is Right" and it is scheduled to air on June 15th. I could, and probably will, write longer on this but he is one of the greatest TV personalities of all time. He will be greatly missed and knowing that at 83 years young he was still going strong just gives you hope that anyone still can at that age. The only problem that I have is that "The Price Is Right" will not go with him. Don't get me wrong I love the show and hope it continues to do well but I would hate to see it share the same fate as classic shows such as "Match Game" and "Family Feud" that have tried but just don't get the ratings that it used to because the host that made the show left (Gene Rayburn for "Match Game" and Richard Dawson for "Family Feud").

Also, in response to a post earlier this week, the TV show "Jericho" is now being brought back to CBS after the protesters bombarded the network with calls, emails, and peanuts. That's right peanuts. The network big-wigs have decided that they must give the public what they want and what they want, above anything else they could be protesting, is a TV show. Apparently this show is really good, it must have to be, but I still won't watch it.

What a conundrum eh? Another one is the one that just transpired between the master of this Blog and his co-conspirator: Would the nacho cheese in the new Taco Bell Extreme Cheese & Beef Quesadilla make the quesadilla all nasty gooey or would Taco Bell use their mastery of all things Mexican and find a way to make this $1.29 flavorfest work? There is only one way to solve this puzzle...Yo quiero Taco Bell...Andale! Andale! Arriba! Arriba!

In other news, there is an old foreign guy sitting in front of my desk and he is bitching that he has no time to wait and I think, yes, we all love waiting so much that we simply come to an Emergency Room because we enjoy sitting on our asses being upset for hours on end. Yes sir, you are bleeding out of a vein in your foot but imagine the starving children in Ethiopia? No because they're starving but because they have to deal with Sally Struther's fat ass! Do you have to deal with Sally Struthers fat ass? No you do not, so quit your bitchin!
