Little bit of everything

First off, we have a new developing story in the Chris Benoit case. We haven't heard anything for a while except that he had ten times the normal testosterone level in his body at time of death. Now scientists studying the effects of concussions have another theory.

While we're on the topic of professional sports, how about Curtis Granderson? Simply amazing year (numbers wise) and he has a chance to be named in the same sentence as the great Willie Mays. Granderson needs only one home run and three steals to become the first major leaguer since Mays to hit 20 doubles (he has 36), 20 triples (has 21), 20 home runs (has 19), and steal 20 bases (has 17). This is an amazing feat if Granderson can reach that plateau. I hope he does and that, in the end, he helps his team reach the playoffs to defend their AL Championship!

The following is going to be a defense, in part, of the University of Michigan football team. If you don't care, which most of my fellow bloggers probably don't, about what I have to say on this...you've been warned. Here goes:

Michigan football is one of the most, if not arguably the most, prestigious teams in college football. They are not some run of the muck team who couldn't hit a pinata without a blindfold, they are a very respectable team put together with some of the best recruits in the country. Students WANT to go to Michigan for their academia and their sports programs. The University of Michigan football team was beaten this weekend by Appalachian State 34-32 in a stunning upset. This game shook the college football world to its core, how could this happen to such a big team? Well it happened because Michigan pulled a Piston-esque performance of playing down to their opponent and/or looking ahead to the next one without getting past the first. However, is such a loss cause enough for a team to drop from #5 in both the AP and the Coaches polls to UNRANKED? This blogger says "Hell No!" This bullshit is unacceptable!

Alright fine, so they lost to a Division 1-AA team by 2 points, it was not a loss to a USC type team and therefore forgivable, apparently this game meant so much to the writers and coaches they felt the need to write them off now. This game will be talked about for years and years, it is stuck with Lloyd Carr's tenure and Michigan football history. I get all that, but has the respect been lost for Michigan entirely that no one thought that there was even the slightest possibility that this App. State team is possibly just a little...what's the word...good?! Michigan is not a team to be pushed over lightly, although it may have appeared so on Saturday. This App. State team played Michigan man to man, drive for drive, all day long. They deserve all the credit in the world for getting a historical, unprecedented victory over one of the juggernauts of college football...but what about Michigan? Is there no reason to think that, had any other team played App. State that day or any other day, that that team would not have problems? This team could beat many of the college football teams in Division 1-A, in my opinion.

Michigan is worthy of a spot in the Top 25 and you writers and coaches damn well know it! It's what we call a "bad week" and it should not be punished so harshly! If Michigan wins out the rest of their year, which they easily could I believe, them not being ranked this week forces them to move all the way up the polls again. The season is now going to be void of a national title (that's just with one loss) but could it be possible that because of your debauchery yesterday when releasing these polls, that you've contributed to a worse fate than deserved for this team? Did they really play worse than Auburn, who needed late scores to hold off Kansas State, or Virginia Tech, who had to hold off East Carolina? I'm asking for a little respect here, I feel it is has been earned and is deserved.
