Movie Review of the Week: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I'll start this one off saying that I haven't read the book, so I have nothing to compare this to and I'll remain unbiased. Personally, I found this movie to be the most boring of the series. Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie, but it could of been paced better. I just wasn't as captivated by the action in this one as I was in previous movies. Harry gets the short end of the stick in this one and he shows it. He's whiny and apparently can't handle it. The only redemption for him is his ability to secretly form an army that he trains himself. He has dreams that are never fully explained, you're just left to guess if Voldemort has invaded his mind or not. I was just not very impressed by Harry's actions and attitude in this movie.

The supporting cast made the movie more bearable. Ralph Fiennes plays the psychotic nemesis, Voldemort, and he plays him well. He has a sadistically evil tone to his work and it pays off. I love Gary Oldman as an actor and he is a great player in the Harry Potter series as Serius Black. He shows off great compassion for Harry and also provides protection as a father would. Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasly) played the same character as the last 4 movies, which is alright I guess. They need to hook up, there's too much tension. Alan Rickman (Professor Snape) didn't have a very big part in this movie, which is unfortunate. He tries to help Harry fight Voldemort, but Harry is lazy and doesn't improve from his advice. Dumbledore was more or less a douchebag throughout most of the movie, except until the end. The new, young, blond chick is rather creepy, but she offers some innocence to the movie and much advice for Harry. The Weasly kids added some much needed laughs to the otherwise mediocre storyline. The actual 'Order of the Phoenix' did jack shit in the movie. I was expecting them to have a bigger role in the movie, and sadly, they did not. They helped out at the end, but other than that, I was very disappointed. Also, Harry finally got some action from that Asian chick with the Irish accent.

Now, for the crowning moment in the film. The visuals in this film were astounding. I was blown away with some of the visual effects and I was amazed at how they can create visuals like that. If you want to give your eyes a visual feast, see this movie. The musical score was, as always, great. I was happy with this part of the film.

All-in-all, I found this movie to be the worst of the series. Hopefully the next one is better and more action packed. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix receives 6 out of 10.
