My reward for finishing that paper I mentioned previously is to try and catch up on the new movies that are coming out in the not too distant future...and some too distant. Since I will be catching up I might as well inform all of you about some of the good ones I find in the mix. I will be using Apple.com so you will need Quicktime to view the trailers. Here we go...in no particular order.
1. 10,000 B.C.
Warner Bros. Pictures and the creators of "Independence Day" and "The Day After Tomorrow" bring you 10,000 B.C., a movie that follows a young hunter (Steven Strait) on his quest to lead an army across a vast desert, battling saber tooth tigers and prehistoric predators as he unearths a lost civilization and attempts to rescue the woman he loves (Camilla Belle) from an evil warlord determined to possess her.
This trailer looks much more interesting than this run of the mill movie sounds...trust me. Release date: March 7, 2008
2. Hitman
Agent 47 (Tim Olyphant) has been educated to become a professional assassin for hire. His most powerful weapons are his nerve and a resolute pride in his work. 47 is both the last two digits of the barcode tattooed on the nape of his neck, and his only name. The hunter becomes the hunted when 47 gets caught up in a political takeover. Both Interpol and the Russian military chase the HITMAN across Eastern Europe as he tries to find out who set him up and why they’re trying to take him out of the game. But the greatest threat to 47’s survival may be the stirrings of his conscience and the unfamiliar emotions aroused in him by a beautiful, damaged girl.
Yes this is based off of the video game by the same name. I don't know what to think of this one until we see the full length trailer because it could be one of those typical shitty flops or Olyphant could do a great job as the bald hitman. Release date: October 12, 2007
3. Get Smart
In the all-new action comedy “Get Smart,” Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) is on a mission to thwart the latest plot for world domination by the evil crime syndicate known as KAOS. When the headquarters of U.S. spy agency Control is attacked and the identities of its agents compromised, the Chief (Alan Arkin) has no choice but to promote his ever-eager analyst Maxwell Smart, who has always dreamt of working in the field alongside stalwart superstar Agent 23 (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson). Smart is partnered instead with the only other agent whose identity has not been compromised: the lovely-but-lethal veteran Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway). As Smart and 99 get closer to unraveling KAOS’ master plan—and each other—they discover that key KAOS operative Siegfried (Terence Stamp) and his sidekick Shtarker (Kenneth Davitian) are scheming to cash in with their network of terror. Given little field experience and even less time, Smart—armed with nothing but a few spy-tech gadgets and his unbridled enthusiasm—must defeat KAOS if he is to save the day.
Based off of the TV show of the same name, which I have never seen an episode of but trust Steve Carell to fully integrate me into it's former culture. Release date: Summer 2008
4. The Heartbreak Kid
Single and indecisive, Eddie (Ben Stiller) feels lonely after attending yet another one of his friend’s weddings. Being teased by his friends and family about being the only remaining bachelor, Eddie decides to take the plunge. In only a week of dating, with significant pressure from his father and best friend (Rob Corddry), Eddie proposes to Lila (Malin Akerman), fearing it may be his last chance for love and marriage. After the hastily prepared Hawaiian themed wedding, the newlyweds embark on a three week honeymoon to Cabo, Mexico. It is then that Eddie realizes what a horrible mistake he has made. Lila turns out not to be the girl of his dreams, but a girl from his nightmares. As soon as the honeymoon road trip starts, she begins to drive Eddie crazy with her outlandish and sometimes outright abusive antics. Luckily for him, on his honeymoon, he meets his true soul mate, Miranda (Michelle Monaghan). Now he must keep his monster of a wife at bay, while he courts his true love.
The trailer shows what looks to be another Ben Stiller hilarious movie. No complaints here. Release date: October 5, 2007
5. The Ten
Ten stories, each inspired by one of the Ten Commandments.
A guy (Adam Brody) who becomes an accidental hero after falling out of a plane.
A librarian (Gretchen Mol) who has a sexual awakening in Mexico with a swarthy local (Justin Theroux)
A doctor (Ken Marino) who kills his patients "as a goof"
A police detective (Liev Schreiber) who covets his neighbor's Cat Scan machine
A mother (Kerri Kenney-Silver) who enlists an Arnold Schwarzenneger impersonator (Oliver Platt) to be a father figure to her children
A prisoner (Rob Corddry) who covets his fellow inmate's "wife"
A woman (Winona Ryder) who falls in love with, and then steals a ventriloquist's puppet
A Rhinoceros (voice of H. Jon Benjamin) who learns the pitfalls of gossip
A husband (A. D. Miles) who skips church with his family to get naked with his friends and listen to Roberta Flack
Jeff Reigert (Paul Rudd) presents all of these stories to the audience, while struggling with his own moral dilemma: having to choose between his beautiful wife (Famke Janssen) and his also beautiful but somewhat younger mistress (Jessica Alba).
The trailer is hilarious looking and need I say more than the movie, at least partially, features Jessica Alba AND Famke Janssen. Thank God that the release date is August 3, 2007.
6. 30 Days of Night
In a sleepy, secluded Alaska town called Barrow, the sun sets and doesn't rise for over thirty consecutive days and nights. From the darkness, across the frozen wasteland, an evil will come that will bring the residents of Barrow to their knees. The only hope for the town is the Sheriff (Josh Hartnett) and Deputy (Melissa George), a husband and wife who are torn between their own survival and saving the town they love.
Based on the trailer this movie appears about vampires being the "evil" and I find that to be a very interesting topic when you talk about so much darkness. Groundbreaking graphic novels is mentioned in the trailer and it could be a pretty good scary movie if you're into such things. Release date: October 19, 2007
7. American Gangster
A Harlem heroin kingpin, Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington) smuggles the drug into America by hiding it in the coffins of American soldiers returning from the Vietnam War. Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe) is a detective who works to bring down Lucas.
The movie is directed by Ridley Scott who worked with Crowe during "Gladiator" plus the music for the movie was made with an 80 piece orchestra...nice! Release date: November 2, 2007
8. Elizabeth: The Golden Age
'The Golden Age' tells the thrilling tale of an era - the story of one woman's crusade to control love, crush enemies and secure her position as a beloved icon of the western world. As Elizabeth's cousin Mary Stuart conspires with Philip of Spain to topple the throne, Sir Francis Walsingham, Elizabeth's trusty advisor works tirelessly to protect her from the many plots and conspiracies against her. Preparing to go to war to defend her empire, Elizabeth struggles to balance royal duties with an unexpected vulnerability in her attraction to Raleigh.
I have yet to see the first one but this trailer appears before "License to Wed" and when I saw it I was immediately hooked. Release date: October 2007
There are many many more movies out there for us to see and enjoy but this is just a list to get you started. God I love movies...these trailers are why.
