Movie Review: Stardust...

Last night I made my way out to the theatre after work and walked into a land I had no idea could possibly exist. I give you "Stardust", the latest in the fantasy made film genre. Having little expectations always helps one get into a movie, and having absolutely zero expectations allows for total immersion.

I had seen a few previews for this film, none of which struck me as spectacular, and ended up going to see it for lack of anything else to do.

I was blown away.

The moment the story begins one is engulfed in amazement and wonder. A sort of ridiculous grown-up-yet-not-enough-to-be-bland-or-scary fairy tale takes over the screen. In the beginning, we see two worlds separated by a mere wall. On one side, there is the human realm. The real, very bland, very definite land that is our world. On the other side, the land of magic and wonder sits. A land of enchantment and magic chains and transporting candles and flying ships fishing for lightning. And Wopsy! It seems that these worlds will live in a constant struggle, one that will ebb away at that very wall for generations.

Our main protagonist crosses through the wall in an attempt to win the hand of his dream girl. A woman, who we can all agree is crazy sexy, who decides that he should bring her a fallen star.

Enter Clare Danes, who is astonishingly beautiful in this film. (Hock, you're kidding yourself if you think otherwise. You might also be a Nazi)

She plays the fallen star brilliantly with splendid mix of spirit and whimsy. To be completely honest, I think that I could easily fall in love with her character. Danes played this part so overwhelmingly well that, at certain points, I began to completely believe everything that was happening on screen. This movie became more like a memory than a story on film.

I could go into lengthy description, but I will leave it like this: there are princes, witches, sword fights, flying ships, and smiles.

There is so much to discuss about this movie: The actors, the surprises, the twists and turns that just made absolutely no sense then perfect sense then no sense then perfect sense again, the action, the ridiculousness of everything. I am truly amazed by pretty much everything about this film.

Also, any film with this:

deserves a nomination by the academy.

This movie makes me so damn excited that I am having an incredible time trying to keep my thoughts from completely overlapping. (and I am sure that I already have) So I think that I will just stop my nonlinear rambling and sum this up as best as I can. (Hock, feel free to add)

Quick review: Beautiful visuals, incredible musical score, fantastical plot, wonderful characters, and the ability to make you want to see what is on the other side of the wall.

I never said I didn't like Clare Danes, I just found the other girls to be hotter. She had no eyebrows in the film and that's not sexy.
