I know that you know that I know you know how much I absolutely love bionics, but every single time I see an advancement in the field I am going to shout it from the hilltops. From the hilltops, I say.
How could I not be excited about this? Read: "The CG hand, programmed to look like silvery stainless steel, moves through a sequence of motions: spherical grasp, cylindrical grasp, thumb to forefinger."
SPHERICAL GRASP! Do you understand the implications of this?
These scientists are going completely off the wall with this shit. They are hoping to have a completed bionic arm by 2009. Sure, it will be one hell of a difficult task, and I am going to bet that it gets delayed, but still; the prospect of bionics is one of the most mind-blowing and wonderful things that human beings may ever create.
Neveryoumind the fact that I totally want to pull an I Robot with these limbs in the future, and that I would actually give up all of my limbs in favor of bionic ones if the abilities suited me, just think about the implications for the rest of the world. Sick children born without limbs would now have them. Regular people in tragic accidents, or that suffered ridiculous illness, would be able to walk/reach/run/grab again....awww...fuck it...
Screw the feel-good aspect of this:

I WANT BIONIC LIMBS!
